I
read all the bad reviews but figured I could rectify any mechanical
issues with my tools on hand. Especially since this was significantly
cheaper than the next similar models, which had no guarantee they were
any better quality.
It arrived in a flat pack that would make Ikea
proud! Well packed with styrofoam and cardboard inserts for protection.
There was no sign of any damaged pieces.
Assembly was quite
straightforward. I notice one review said the casters didn't sit flat on
the floor, I did not have this issue but if the fact that the casters
screw into place means washers could be added to correct that if it was
an issue.
The only drawback was that once complete the top surface
leaned slightly to the right. Not bad enough to get in the way of use,
but annoying if you're a bit OCD! Out with the squares and levels and
everything seemed to be true. Further investigation showed that due to
the top support tube being smaller than the bottom tube (to allow for
the telescoping height adjustment) there was enough free play to can't
the top tube one clamped in position. I tried shims to correct this but
at the end of the day adding a couple of washers under the top mount
resolved the problem (see second picture).
I've had no issues with
the clamp not holding, but then my laptop is not particularly heavy.
I've had a lot of use out of this already with a couple of different
systems and at various height settings, with no tendency for it to drop
at all.
The finish of the top service is not the best but really, who cares? They even threw in a mouse pad with it!
Overall can't beat this for the price.
